Question posed by kw3647: What is the name of the test for cystic fibrosis?
Before i begin having children, I would like to be tested to see if I am a carrier for cystic fibrosis. The gene is in my husband’s family, so before getting pregnant I would like to know if I am as well

The most common test for cystic fibrosis is called the sweat test. It measures the amount of salt (sodium chloride) in the sweat. In this test, an area of the skin (usually the forearm) is made to sweat by using a chemical called pilocarpine and applying a mild electric current.

Question by Linda: Can I force the father of my baby to take a test to see if he is a carrier of Cystic Fibrosis?
I am 14 weeks pregnant and I have been tested and found out I am a carrier of Cystic Fibrosis. The doctors told me to have the baby’s father come in and get tested also. If the baby’s father is a carrier, it is a very high chance the baby could have CF. If the baby’s father is a carrier the doctors can start me on some things that can help prevent it from being carried to the child. However, the baby’s father is giving me a hard time about getting this done. Is there anything I can do to force him to take this test. It is just a urine test. That simple. But he is being difficult and I’m worried about my child’s health. Please help.

Not that I know of, aside from a court order. I hope he comes around. Good luck!

A question asked by Anwar A: Would you have the test to determine if you were a carrier for cystic fibrosis?
A man and women want to have children. But they disagree because the woman refuses to get tested to see if she is a carrier of cystic fibrosis. The husband gets tested and finds out he is a carrier. His younger brother suffered from cystic fibrosis and doesn’t want to go through the same thing with his own child. The woman believes that not knowing the risks is better and once they have their baby nothing else will matter. Would you get tested why or why not? Please give more than one reason. Keep in mind the cost of reproductive technology such as in vitro or ex utero

Question posed by ChemImpaired: Blood test to determine sex of baby?
I had asked a question if there was a blood test to determine the sex of the baby a few days ago. Everyone told me there wasn’t, but i had my appointment today with the Center for Medical Genetics and they did it! They said it was 99% accurate and i’ll be getting my results in 7-10 days! They took 3 vials of blood, one for the sex of the baby, one for cystic fibrosis, and the other for down’s syndrome. I also had the ultra sound done. Just wondering if anyone has had this blood test done?

(sux ive beatin my self up mentally for this) i know ive missed out on tests and other check ups that needed to be done sooner. i was also wondering the kinds of tests others have gone through.
PLEASE I DONT NEED ANY -NEGITIVE- FEEDBACK!!!!!
Top answer:
Answer by now what?
it is a simple blood test, and the important thing is you are seeking medical attention to care for yourself and baby now!
you have not really missed out on alot of test that can not be done at this point, and the ones you did, are optional anyways, and not 100% reliable, they get alot of false positives with them! take your vitamins and eat right and stay active and you will be just fine!
