The ability of the pathogen Plasmodium to invade the human immune system is one reason developing a malaria vaccine is so difficult. Another reason is that less money is spent on malaria research than on diseases that affect fewer people, such as cystic fibrosis. What are the possible reasons for this imbalance in research effort?
