Which Is Better for Cystic Fibrosis Patients, the Vest or a Flutter Device?
Question posed by kendell c: Which is better for cystic fibrosis patients, the vest or a flutter device?
My 12 yr old has CF and uses the vest for many years now. Is the flutter device better than the vest? We are looking for something more portabe for trips and such. Something smaller and easier to use might encourage him to do his treatments more than once per day.

I personally think the vest is better, but the flutter or acapella devices are also very effective. If you are looking for compact and portable the flutter/acapella should do the job , but for ever day maintenance I would definitely stick with the vest. The Acapella can also be attached to the end of the corrugated tubing on the nebulizer to do both therapies at once. Always consult your child’s doctor before changing therapies.

I am a 24 year old with cystic fibrosis and my brother is 27 with CF. I agree with the RT above about the flutter and the accapella. I would recomend the accapella just because its mostly one peice. the flutter in my experience LOVES to fall apart and you lose the little ball and thus no more working flutter. (its been my experience) however the accapella is a pain in the but to clean and with all the psudemonus and crap we get they need to stay clean like our nebs
It all depends. if your son takes ultrace enzymes he can request a free flutter from axcan pharmacy when he sends in his request for free scandishakes and adek vitamins. and if this is new info I suggest talking with the nutritionist at you local CF clinic
good luck with your son
