The leading cause of death for all age groups is accidents. When it comes to disease, it varies by age and lifestyle. The number one growing disease is diabetes, which is part genetics and a lot more lifestyle in all age groups. This is followed by cancer and heart and lung problems. Where ever you live, go on the web and look up vital statistics for your state, usually the department of health, and it will provide the information you seek. Malnutrition, which you would not think of in a country like ours, causes early death, especially in pre-school children.
Are you looking for current diseases? In USA only? Back in the day (before most required immunizations) there were many more fatal diseases, such as small pox and polio. Third-world countries have children dying from AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis and the such continuously. Are you targeting a particular age group or just trying to pinpoint a disease that takes life early?
Here are a few diseases that will cut life short. Hope this helps you!
Cancer
Congenital Anomalies
Heart Disease
Cerebral Palsy
Pneumonia & Influenza (The Flu)
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease / Respiratory Problems
Cerebrovasular Diseases
HIV/AIDS
Meningitis
Diabetes
Good luck with your report!
