What Are My Chances of Being a Cystic Fibrosis Carrier?
Question by Blessed with a Boy on 11/21/10: What are my chances of being a Cystic Fibrosis carrier?
I am almost 9 weeks pregnant. I had a visit with my gynecologist last week and we went through family history. I informed him that my nephew (sister’s son) has cystic fibrosis. I did go ahead and get the blood test completed to see if I’m a carrier but they said it would be a little while before it would be back. Do you have any idea what my chances of being a carrier would be? Me and that sister have the same set of parents. I also have another sister that has tested negative to being a CF carrier. Of course, if it came back positive, my husband will get tested. Any insight? Thanks.
What? Obviously you didn’t read my question. Am I supposed to NOT have children because I could POSSIBLY be a cystic fibrosis carrier?

Just try and relax…My boyfriend and I have 2 children and we are both cystic fibrosis carriers ( we didn’t know this until after we had our first daughter who is also a carrier…but our second daughter doesn’t have cystic fibrosis and she is also not a carrier. So it is only by chance that a child would end up actually having the mutation. I think relaxing and realizing that this is not really in your hands, and just loving your child no matter what is the only thing that you can do
just enjoy being pregnant. worrying can just make things a lot worse and can cause other forms of complications while you are pregnant.
