Ok so most answers are going to say.. He should get the vest every day for at least 30 minutes, And always do what the doctor prescribes and if he isn’t using the vest then thats wrong and Most people who will say that will be people who have not had serious health problems going on 27 years. blah blah…. However I have a feeling his mind frame has taken him to the typical CF’rs mind frame around this age…. So here is my answer for that.
Well I am guessing since he does have a vest he also has prescribed inhalers and breathing treatments (nebulizers)… Which most CF’rs if its to a point of having a vest he is probably supposed to do a breathing treatment at LEAST once a day, maybe more. Which would mean he is supposed to do the vest at LEAST once a day. your technically supposed to do the vest after a breathing treatment. however…
I do have to say I am about as diligent as he is about using the vest. After a while quite a few cf’rs develop the, “I am so sick of these meds” frame of mind. We take a break from meds.. weather just a couple months or a few years whatever. We aren’t supposed to do that. But there is nothing you or anyone else can say to him to get him to do the things he is supposed to do. Just support him anyway you can. The more you ask him to get them. The more he won’t get them. It has nothing to do with you at all. Its more that he has dealt with them for 27 years and he would rather be spending time with you or friends or doing ANYTHING Than doing his meds. He is sick of them.
His health if he is doing fine right now would last longer if he did his meds yes. But If he is doing fine without them then awesome. Yes CF will progressively make his life harder. It will get worse. But there are also lung transplants and such to make it easier…. Also If he has already had a lung transplant then really he doesn’t need to worry about his breathing treatments. Usually.
