my cousin has cystic fibrosis, she’s alive and doing well and she’s 16. she has to take a lot of pills though. other than that and the fact that she probably weighs less than 100 lbs, she’s completely normal and can do anything she wants.
call the pediatrician for any concerns. it is normal to feel anxious and worried. write your questions down on a piece of paper to remind you when you speak w/the doctor. ask the pediatrician to refer you to a specialist and a support group for parents.
With technology today and advances in Medicine, she has a GREAT chance. Dont panic till you know for sure though…..you will worry yourself sick! We will keep her and your family in our prayers!
Have they tested her sweat? Looking at blood cells is not the best diagnosis for CF. Long story short, they should test her sweat and look for an increase in sodium (more involved than that, but that’s the gist of it). If she does have CF don’t despair. It is not reversible, but life expectancy is around 30 and gets a bit longer every year. Genetic therapy is making leaps and bounds and is the cornerstone for treating CF nowadays. Stay positive and so will she. Good luck.
