I’m Preg. and Was Told That I Am a Carrier for Cystic Fibrosis. Will My Baby Have CF?
A question from sonosis2002: I’m preg. and was told that I am a carrier for cystic fibrosis. Will my baby have CF?
Does the father have to be a carrier also for my baby to have cystic fibrosis. If he is a carrier what percent chance will my baby have to have CF? If we are both carriers will my baby definately have CF or will he have a certain percentage of having CF?

many women are carriers…does NOT necessarily mean that your baby will have CF. Very small chance at that.
the father has to also be a carrier, and if he is, there is a 25 percent chance of each child that you have of having CF. if you are the only carrier, you need not to worry about the child having it. although he/she would probably also be a carrier. so you can either have the father checked out, or have the baby get a sweat test after birth, simple, and non obtrusive.
The father must also be a carrier. Even if he is there is only a 25% chance baby will have CF. One of the managers where I work found out while his wife was pregnant with 2nd child they are both carriers of CF, but neither child has it. Good Luck. I know it is soooo hard, but try not to stress & have dad CF DNA tested to ease your mind.
