Help! I’m a Carrier for Cystic Fibrosis!!!?
Question by beachcutie03: Help! I’m a carrier for cystic fibrosis!!!?
I’m almost 6 weeks pregnant and I had my routine blood work done last week and my Dr. called me today. She told me I’m a carrier for cystic fibrosis. My husband is going to get tested tomorrow. What does this mean if we both carry the gene? Also does this mean I have cystic fibrosis?? I’m worried that I have it now and my unborn baby too! Help!

I think it just means that there is a chance your child could be born with it, and just cause your a carrier does not mean you have it, you are just storing it in your body. Just like anyone can be a carrier for something like mono, but never actually get sick from it.

your child is possible to have cystic fibrosis. why don’t you ask your doctor for more information, i think he’ll be glad to tell you :]
If your husband also carries the gene there is a possibility that your child will have CF.
If you alone carry the gene your child will not have CF but will also possibly inherit the gene and be a carrier.
I am a carrier of the CF gene, I do not have Cystic Fibrosis but I do have one son with CF because his father has the CF gene(my first husband) and twin daughters are carriers(from my current marriage but my husband does not carry the gene)and one other daughter who is neither a carrier nor has CF.

I will be keeping you and your family in my prayers.
If you and your husband carry the gene for CF, there is a one in four chance the baby will have CF. No, you do not have CF. You are only a carrier. If your husband is not a carrier, the baby will not have CF, but could be a carrier like you. For more information, go to the website cff.org. Good luck with the test results.
