A question asked by yeap: Cystic Fibrosis? If your a carrier of it does it affect you?
Cystic Fibrosis? If your a carrier, some dont say but does it affect you if your just a carrier?

If you are a carrier you will not experience any of the symptoms of cystic fibrosis. You do not have the disease yourself, but you are capable of passing it onto your children if your partner also happens to be a carrier of the cystic fibrosis gene.

no it doessnt affect you at all im a carrier and it doesnt affect people that carry it unless your having kids and you can pass it on to them but its recessive trait and your spouse carriers it then maybe but not super common but definitly possible but no it does not affect you!
No. It doesn’t effect you. In fact 1 in 20 people are carriers. If you knew you were a carrier then it might effect how you plan a family later in life as you’d need to have your partner tested …….
One of the probable reasons why cystic fibrosis has been fixed at such a high percentage in the gene pool is that people who are carriers probably had a genetic advantage over people without a single copy of the mutated cf gene!!!!!!!!! Why ? Well it has been speculated that a decrease in the number of chloride pumps in the cells of your gut is probably an advantage in an environment where thyphoid is prevalent .e.g. in medieval europe. The dehydrating and lethal diarrhoea cause by salmonella typhi bacteria in the gut is caused by a toxin turning on the chloride pump that is faulty in CF. A CF carrier has maybe half the number of functioning pumps so the effects of diarrhea were much less….and CF carriers probably survived while non CF carriers died. The CF carriers have enough pumps working not to experience CF itself though
