♥ asked:
I am going for my second test for Cystic Fibrosis soon, and I would like some information on Cystic Fibrosis in Adolescents. I am a 15 year old cancer survivor, and my doctors are testing me for CF to find a possible solution as to why I am not gaining weight. Please help. Thanks.

I am not sure why they are thinking that … you have not given us enough information to be able to give you some intelligent dialogue ….
It is very unusual to associate weight loss in a child your age with CF …. but I am sure they have there reasons .. but without knowing any of your history .. labs … radiology reports …. it is tough to understand why they think this ..
I wish you the best!
If you did have cystic fibrosis you would have been treated for it way before now. Have you ever had lung problems? From the sounds of it you don’t have it because it never goes undetected up until your 15
It could be many problems. CF can occur in people 15 and over, its rare though. If you’ve survived cancer it may be reoccuring. That might cause the weight loss.
the main symptoms of CF are:
*Frequent cough
*salty sweat
*weight loss
*frequent chest infections
It is very rare that CF goes years without being detected, but, all of your concerns will be answered by your doctor. Treating CF takes a team of doctors regardless of where you live and they are your BEST resource. For now, books at the library and will answer a lot of questions and connect you with people.
lots of info on the CF Foundation web site:
As for your situation, I imagine they are testing you for CF because it’s an easy test to do and not invasive (if they are doing a sweat chloride test, it’s just putting a gauze on your arm and making you sweat).
People with CF don’t gain weight very well, because they don’t digest their food unless they take pancreatic enzymes. They also have a lot of lung infections and abdominal pain, greasy stools, and trouble clearing their snot.
